Anita Jackson Hill

I am currently a Reading Specialist for Chicago Reading Initiative. I service Raymond Elementary School. I have been a CPS teacher since 1991.

I have been on the writing team for several curriculum projects. For Chicago Public Schools I wrote lesson plans for the primary social science curriculum. These lessons were designed to give support to teachers. They were developed to assist teachers in implementing standards-based curricula in the four core subject areas. They can stand alone or be used with other curricular materials you may have.

I also had the pleasure of writing for the MAPS office. The Museum and Public Schools project is a creative approach to teaching and learning. MAPS blends museum resources and inquiry-based instruction.

Working with MAPS led to me working with some amazing teachers from the Shedd Aquarium on the Amazon Rising and the The Wild Reef activity guides. The Shedd SEA has a wonderful selection of resources for teachers.

I am married to Lawrence N. Hill, he is an attorney at Gardner Carton & Douglas. In March of 1999 I got a horrible ear infection followed by Bell's Palsy. Later, we realized the next month we got pregnant. We have a daughter Elizabeth Imari Hill. She is 3 years old. She was due January 17, 2000, but she choose to arrive very early and was born in November of 1999. We live in South Shore one of Chicago's many neighborhood with our three cats: Snoop, Adler and Sukey. I love to read mysteries, thrillers and children's books.

I had the honor of serving as a teacher facilitator for the 2003 REA Children's Literature Institute. The institute was a lot of work and a lot of fun!We had the opportunite to study authors and illustrators as well as revisit genres of children's literature.
