Professional Development/Travel
Sharing the experience-My travels, workshops
and seminars are a continuing personal and professional development.
As I learn more about the history, culture and people, I
share the information and experience with my students. I have traveled
to Japan, China, Germany, the Caribbean and Canada. While in the
countries, I visited schools, talked with teachers and have had homestays.
Workshops and seminars have taken me to the to the east coast and west
coast studying Japanese history, the Harlem Renaissance, Latin American
history and Chicago’s history and communities.
My Family/Friends
- What can you say about family? My family is
loving, supportive, special and always there.During the last few months
we have needed each other more than we thought we would. In January
2002, I lost my husband and had surgery, they were there. This past January,
a fire destroyed the family home, I was there. Most of my family
will be living with me until the building in restored. My nieces,
brother, sister , and mother have bonded, all has brought us closer.
I have two new additions to my family, Coffee and Creme. We have
been a family for a year.

Friends
I have many acquaintances, people that are in
the many organizations, but close friends I have had since we were
children. Our mothers were friends. We would meet at church, were
in Jack and Jill together, worked side by side as our mothers raised funds
for the Southside Art Center, NAACP and Harris YWCA. We have had
a life together. Although two have moved away we still talk weekly
and see each other every year. The others are my bridge mates, shopping
partners, shoulder holders. We listen to each other and assist each other
. We are friends!!!!!
"The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I
have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that I am happy in loving
him, he will want no other reward. Is not friendship devine in this?
" Henry David Thoreau
