Why Study Spanish?

                                                                                                                                                        September 3, 2002

Dear Students and Parents:

    Welcome to a multi-cultural experience.  We are embarking upon an exciting year.  How exciting will depend primarily on you!!  You are entering a success-oriented program, which requires your commitment to participate willingly in all activities and to always put forth your best efforts with a positive attitude. With your cooperation, we will share an enthusiastic, educational and global adventure.

    In keeping with the Uniform Discipline Code of the Board of Education and the Hyde Park Academy High School regulations, certain requirements must be adhered to:


**  No coats, hats or shorts (ladies and gentlemen) shall be worn in the classroom.
**  No earrings (gentlemen) shall be worn in the classroom.
**  Your I.D. must be worn in the classroom.
**  No food, drink or gum in the classroom.

Success oriented students will do the following:

1.  Be prepared for class with:

        * Books
        * Three-ring Binder [1½  inch ring]
        * Dividers [5]
        * 200-count notebook paper
        * Pens/Pencils
        * White Out
        * Index Cards, lined
        * Spanish Dictionary
                       -Suggestions
                                                       ° Webster's New Explorer Spanish/English Dictionary
                                                       ° Vox Modern Spanish/English Dictionary
                                                       ° The University of Chicago Spanish/English Dictionary
                                                       °  HarperCollins Spanish/English Dictionary
                                                       ° Oxford Spanish/English Dictionary


2.  Maintain good attendance

3.  Be punctual

4.  Be respectful

5.  Complete all assignments by due dates.

6.  Participate in all activities (class, group, etc.)

7.  Absolutely no food, drink or chewing gum allowed.

8.  Above all...Please ask for help.

9.  Tutorial is available;  and is REQUIRED for those students indentified by the instructor.

Parent/Student conferences, by appointment, are welcomed and encouraged.  The phone number to the World Language Department is (773) 535-0938 and the school's number is (773) 535-0880.  You may leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible.  Please remember to state the name of your child's language teacher when leaving a message.
