Teacher's Guide

Aim
To expose seventh and eighth graders to the musical history called Jazz.


Rationale

Today's elementary student has little understanding of the development of musical history. They lack the knowlege or appreciation of the foundation of what they consider todays music, some of them even believe that their peers created it.

Description of audience
The audience will be 7th and 8th graders.

Prerequisites
Student must have a workable knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Experience creating sound files.
Basic computer skills.
Knowlege of embedding sound and inserting objects in presentation.

Description of subject-matter
History of Jazz

Learning objectives
Students will:
Be able to identify pioneers in Jazz
Will be able to recognize music by these pioneers.
Will gain an understand of the development of today’s music.
Create a multi-media presentation which demonstrations their newly acquired knowledge of a Jazz giant.
Student will be able to appreciate and recogize different Jazz artist.
Successfully complete the Just Jazz Quiz.


Instructional plan
In this curriculum modules the students will demonstrate their computer and organization skills. The assignment will be present in the computer lab. The students will be able to complete most of the work during class period. Students are encouraged to work in small team or group with the teacher permission.
