Parent Information
This year we are promoting families learning
and working together. You play an important role in the educational
growth of your child. This year, homework will be used to encourage
families to read, write and complete all assignments together. Your
child’s homework will consist of the following components:
Basic Math Skills
Addition, subtraction using regrouping, multiplication,
and division. We will use double (10, 20, 30, etc) and triple (100,
200, 300, etc) digits. We encourage you to make up math problems
and assist him/her in solving them. We will send homework to re-enforce
these skills as well.
Vocabulary Building
Your child will begin to expand his vocabulary.
He/she will also become acquainted with parts of speech for better writing
skills and language usage. It is important that your
child shares these skills with you.
Shared Reading
We want to encourage the children to develop
a love of reading and writing, therefore we are asking that you read a
story to your child each night. Please allow your child to read the
book if he/she is able. The children will record a list of the books
read on their daily reading journal.
Library Cards
In addition to reading to your child, we are asking
that each child acquire a library card and that you take them to the library
as often as possible. We are planning some class trips to the library
during this school year to assist our children with different library skills.
Personal Belongings and Money
Your child should not bring any money or other
valuable items to school. Please understand that we cannot be responsible
for lost or misplaced items. You should not send money to school
unless it is requested in writing for a school-approved activity.
When sending money, please seal it in an envelope, with your child’s name
and room number on the outside.
Supplies
Please make sure that your child comes to school
prepared to work. Your child should bring the following supplies
to school in order to be prepared to work:
2 pencils
with pencil cases and crayons
3 - ring notebook
Notebook paper
2 boxes of
kleenex
It is necessary for your child to bring a small
bookbag, backpack, or shopping bag to carry items to and from school.
Please check and clean out bag daily.
Many of the children have
personal belongings that are similar, to make it easier for your child
and the teacher, please write your child’s name on the inside of all
hats, sweaters, coats, and books. This will help your child identify
his clothing and become more responsible.
