Journal entry: Day 2: July 8, 2003
What do you think a digital library is? What did I learn today?
A digital library is basically a library without books. The
patron is enabled to browse and search for information without the help
of a librarian or library. Today we were introduced to the DELTA WIT Listserv.
I'm now able to e-mail all of my classmates and mentors @ anytime.
All of us created a vision statement by giving a one word response of why
we were participating in WIT 2003. We were also introduced to FTP. -
I pray that I get this!!!
Journal entry: Day 3: July 9, 2003
Free response day. What did I learn today?
Let's see.
I was introduced to two new
sites : http://www.shakespeare.com/
and http://www.dmoz.com/
I feel great about adding images to my composer
page.Christie also told me never type my text in blue.
(sorry) It's the same color used for links. (see above)
The tools and icons in Netscape are similar to Microsoft Word.
I feel like doing a compare and contrast paper.
Journal entry: Day 4: July 10, 2003
Respond to Diana Joseph's lecture on Passion Curriculum. How can
you use these concepts to better meet the needs of your students and fellow
teachers? What did I learn today?
I was absent!! However, I am becoming more
patient when it comes to computers and learning new programs. The computer
at my job will be my lifesaver until I get my own. This Blogging is very
interesting. I'm going to have my students do this during computer time.
Journal entry: Day 5: July 11, 2003
Describe how your teaching will be affected by what you have learned.
What did I learn today?
This class has enabled me to to build
my own web site. I feel more tech savvy. The more tech savvy
I feel, the more I can show students how to produce wonderful works
involving technology. I will be able to use several digital libraries
for creating lesson plans, searching and browsing the internet , and being
resourceful for the staff.
Journal entry : Day 6: July 14, 2003
What resources and services would the ideal digital library provide
for your staff and students? What did I learn today?
The digital library should enable students and
teachers to become more comfortable with using other resources besides
books. One should be able to use books and the computer to
find information. Today, the class learned more about how the eCUIP library
can be used in the classroom and the library.
Journal entry: Day 7: July 15, 2003
In what areas do you need to build your library's collection? How
might digital resources supplement your collection? Describe any limits
you see to using digital resources in your library (e.g., computer access,
etc.)
In the present library, I would like to build
many selections. The two areas that needs a library collection are:
reference and non-fiction. A digital library can replace all of
the book mention if there is a shortage of money. The digital
library will be a great idea in the school if the school had more computers
and more tech savvy teachers. Students also need more time to use
the library. The school library should be able to have an accessible
tech time for students to do research.
Journal entry: Day 8: July 16, 2003
Free response day. What did I learn today?
Today, the class was introduced to another
module involving Searching and Browsing the Web. The module introduced
the difference between a directory and a search engine. We had several
task to perform. All task were great. I had a problem with one question
in the last task.
Journal entry: Day 9: July 17, 2003
Discuss how digital libraries function in your library's collection
management plan? What did I learn today?
There are several ways that a digital library
should be used in a collection management plan. If the library does
not have a lot of books in non-fiction and reference, the digital library
is a great resource. If the librarian needs to present a subject and
make it interesting to students, the librarian can use the digital library
for lesson planning. The digital library will make will make library
management successful.
Journal entry: Day 10: July 18, 2003
Discuss how the concepts of collection mapping and curriculum mapping
would inform a collection development policy for your digital library.
Together collection mapping and curriculum mapping
will enforce a successful digital library in the elementary school or high
school library or an academic library. Collecting the "most appropriate
resource just in time", can save a librarian lots of time and money.
Journal entry: Day 11: July
21, 2003
Think about your plan for your digital library. How do you envision
using your digital library in your library? Answering this question will
help you define the goals for your digital library. What did I learn today?
My digital library will be used for teachers and administrators in
the CPS system. I envsision my digital library will bring resources
to an audience that will need services in order to make their classroom
or school a better environment. Today I mastered linking and FTP'n.
Journal entry: Day 12: July 22, 2003
Describe your understanding of inquiry-based
learning and how it manifests itself at your school. What did I learn today?
Today I learned,
with the help of my mentors, how to do an internal link (anchoring link).
I am soo excited. I also found all the links I'm going
to use for my digital library for media specialist and teachers. My
links are mostly for media specialist.
Journal entry: Day 13: July
23, 2003
What did I learn today?
Ok, I almost
feel apart. My journal page was lost but.. I found it! With
a little FTP'n and moving files I found it. I
have decided to change my inquiry page to another question pertaining to
media specialist.
Journal entry: Day

use my digital library and inquiry unit with my students/staff next year?

TheDigital Library for Media Specialtist
can be implemented two ways:
A. Digital Library
1. General Information Websites
2. Lesson Plans
3. Bibilographies
4. Pathfinders
5. Websites for Faculty
6. Websites for Students (Future Bloggers)
B. Inquriy Units
1. Collaborations

Journal entry: Day 15: July 25, 2003
How might I use the museum resources presented today in my library
or with my teachers?
What are the challeges in using these resources?
I would use the museum resources in my digital library. I would use the
links. Teachers need to know how to develop lesson plans that can incorporate
museum culture. That would make the classroom a fun environment! The
resources have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages outweight
the disadvantages.
