WEEKLY UPDATE FOR NOVEMBER 17, 2008 


Reading

We will focus on summarizing, topic sentences in paragraphs and supporting details in our read alouds, shared reading, guided reading and literature circles. In shared reading we will begin the reading and discussion of Two Tickets To Freedom on page 100 through 105. The vocabulary words for the story are: abolitionist, fugitive, sympathetic, asserted, and indignantly.

Writing

We will begin writing an essay on "What I Am Thankful For."
Spelling

We will focus on the /j/ sound spelled ge and dge. Our spelling words for the week are: ledge, package, message, pledge, garbage, bridge, average, judge, damage, luggage, edge, discourage, budge, manage, and urge. Our challenge words are: vegetable, mineral, protein, vitamin, and nutrition.

Cursive  We will focus on upper and lower case Cc.

English

We will continue unit 2 with the review of singular and plural nouns ending in s and es after ch, sh, z, s, ss, or x and singular nouns ending in y and their plural endings s, eys, or ies.

Math

We will continue Unit 3: Multiplication and Division; Number Sentences and Algebra. We will focus on "What's My Rule?" diagrams and multiplication facts.

Science

We will complete our body folders through the digestive system and study for the digestive system exam on Tuesday of next week.

Social Studies

We will complete our essays on "My Choice For President" and we will read them in class.

Music

Music homework will be handed out the week of December 1, 2008. The quiz will be the week of December 8, 2008 and the final exam will be the week of January 12, 2009.

International Night is Friday, November 21, 2008.

Parent Notes

Help! We have run out of facial tissue for our room and with the season for colds upon us we will have quite a few runny noses. Please send a box or two. Please encourage your child to read for pleasure at least one half hour every evening to acquire his/her accelerated reader points.
