All About Switching Between and Opening Applications

Launching a program application

In the computer world an application program (those two terms are synonyms, by the way) is a set of files that create an environment where you can create and edit documents. In the case of a word processing program you would create document composed of words. In the case of a graphics program you would create documents that are graphics (ie: images or pictures).

Here are the two common methods for launching / opening / running (another set of synonyms) a program.

Find and open the icon

Open the hard disk icon and keep opening folders until you find the icon of the program you want to open. Then double-click on that icon and it will open and there you are!

Use a menu to open it

Using the Apple menu on a Macintosh computer

Using the Start menu on a Windows computer
