Introduction to FTP

This module provides basic information of FTP.  There are practice excercises and tests, as well as a short index of helpful terminology.  We hope you find this module useful.
 

 What isFTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and is the means in which files are transfered from one computer to another.  Examples of ftp use include the following:

  • download programs or files (i.e., retrieve files from remote computers, or servers)
  • upload files to a remote computer, or server
  • share files with multiple users
  • send files through ftp
