Managing
the Use of the Internet in the Classroom

This module is designed to assist teachers to maximize the use of the Internet in their teaching.
Teachers are faced with a variety of situations pertaining to Internet availability in their classrooms, schools, and personal lives. There are those teachers whose sole Internet connection is based at home, those who are fortunate enough to have an Internet connected classroom and a computer for each student, as well as those situations that fall in between. There is no one recipe or plan to follow to ensure that the Internet is managed successfully in your classroom. Rather, trying a variety of strategies and finding the ones that work best in your situation seem to have the best results.
You may wish to read through the Teaching Guide for more information about the purpose and structure of this module.
This module will be easier to use if you have several handouts. If you are using this module as part of WIT 2001, your mentor will have handouts to give you. Otherwise, you can print the handouts. You'll need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader 5. If you don't have the Reader, click on the button.
Before moving into a discussion of how to manage the internet in your classroom, it's important to determine how the use of the Internet will assist you in your teaching. It is recommended that you begin this module by determining which of your teaching goals will be enhanced by Internet computer usage.
