How the Mouse works on Windows

If you've used a Macintosh you've noticed that the Macintosh mouse has one button across the top. You may be surprise to see that all Windows mice have at least two buttons: a right and a left mouse button. They do different things and look like this:

Here's how to use these two mouse buttons. (You may need to retrain your fingers to click on the correct button....)

Activity 1: Using those two Mouse buttons

1) Get to the desktop. (Minimize or exit any open programs so you see just the desktop.)

2) Using the Left mouse button, click on the My Computer icon. This will select the My computer icon.

3) Using the Left mouse button, double click on the My Computer icon. This will open the My Computer window.

This works the same way as the one mouse button on a standard Mac mouse.

4) Using the Right mouse button, click on the desktop. This will produce a menu of different options. This list of menus will change depending on what the point of the arrow is over when you click the right mouse button. (This is called context sensitive.)

(Click here to learn one of the uses of the right click.)

And that's how that works!
