      <font size=+1>The goal of Evaluating Internet Resources and Web-Based Lessons 
      is to aid WIT participants in taking a critical look at existing interent 
      resources and Web-based lessons to determine what constitutes a good Website/Web-based 
      lesson.&nbsp; This module also aims to offer guidelines that will assist 
      the WIT participant in evaluating these resources/lessons prior to their 
      use in the classroom.&nbsp; These critiques, evaluations and guidelines 
      will also assist the WIT participant as they begin to develop their own 
      Web pages, Websites or Web-based lessons.</font> <br>

      <b><font size=+1>Rationale</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>The critical evaluation of Websites and Web-based lessons 
      is essential in order to determine if they are of high quality and if they 
      meet the unique needs of the individual classroom.&nbsp; Evaluation of this 
      sort also enables the teacher to modify Websites/Web-based lessons to fit 
      the needs of the individual classroom and to identify potential problems 
      in designing a Website/Web-based lesson of their own.</font> <br>

      <b><font size=+1>Subject Matter</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>Criteria and evaluation rubrics are printed out and used in 
      the analysis, evaluation, and scoring of Websites and Web-based lessons.</font>

      <b><font size=+1>Audience</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>This module is for WIT participants, educators, or indeed, 
      anyone, interested in evaluating the worth and appropriateness of internet 
      resources/Web-based lessons.</font> <br>

      <br>
      <b><font size=+1>Materials Needed and Pre-requisites</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>WIT participants will need an Internet connected computer 
      and their handout packet.&nbsp; Teachers should be able to use search engines 
      to locate resources and be able to navigate through various Websites.</font> 
      <br>

      <br>
      <b><font size=+1>Instructional Plan</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>WIT participants will work through the two sections of this 
      module by reading through the introduction/content, then by participating 
      in mentor-led demonstrations, followed by 1-2 tasks, and finish with (optional) 
      practice activities.&nbsp; In the section on Evaluating Internet Resources, 
      the participants will discuss criteria for evaluation, participate in two 
      mentor-led demonstrations, choose and evaluate Websites, and score the Websites 
      which were evaluated.&nbsp; Extension practice activities are included for 
      more in-depth analysis and evaluation.&nbsp; In the section on Evaluating 
      Web-based Lessons, the participants will determine what constitutes a Web-based 
      lesson, locate examples of Web-based lessons, participate in two mentor-led 
      demonstrations and discuss and apply evaluation criteria to Web-based lessons.&nbsp; 
      Participants will discuss their evaluations with partners and with the class 
      at large.</font> <br>

      <b><font size=+1>Assessment</font></b> <br>
      <font size=+1>WIT participants will be asked to locate internet resources 
      and web-based lessons, download evaluation/scoring forms (or use their handouts 
      for evaluation) and submit the completed evaluation checklists and scoring 
      rubrics to the mentor(s).</font> <br>
