FTP

Introduction: FTP Activities.

The term "FTP" stands for "File Transport Protocol". An FTP program is used to upload and download files to and from the Internet. You will need an ftp program to upload and download your files to the Web Institute for Teachers server.

We are using a Freeware program called Ace FTP 2 Freeware for Windows.

There are 6 activities: begin with the first, and proceed through the fifth. The sixth is optional, and is mainly a duplicate of the fifth activity.

• The first, Download and Install the Program, leads you through the process of downloading the AceFTP program from the Web Institute for Teachers server, and installing it onto your workstation.

• The second, Introduction to AceFTP, is a basic introduction to the program. Participants are introduced to menu commands, icons, and windows.

• The third, Security, addresses a password security issue with the program if it is used on a lab computer.

• The fourth, "Set up your Connection, leads you through the process of creating a connection to your own folder on the Web Institute for Teachers server.

• The fifth, Uploading your Wit Folder, leads you through the process of uploading the WIT folder that you created in the folder creation activity.

• An additional activity, Uploading and Downloading, is the same activity as the fifth, except it expects you to upload a file of your choice instead of a folder.
