Intro
Working with "bullet" lists or "number"
lists in Dreamweaver can frustrate anyone. Often times
it is difficult to edit a list in Dreamweaver, but you
will find that it is can be simple if you know the HTML.
Lists are created using the following tags:
<ol> for an ordered list
<ul> for an unordered list
Each item on the list is given the tag <li>.
So, if you want to make something a part of the list, you
put the <li> tag before it and the </li>
tag after it.
Conversely, if you have an item included in the list
that should not be there, you would look for the <li>
and </li> codes in front of and after the item in
question and remove them. This should remove the
"bullet" or "number" preceding the item.

Let's try it here.
A few of my favorite movies include:
- Some Like It Hot
- Double Indemnity
-
- All About My Mother
- American Beauty
- So I Married an Axe Murderer
As you can see above, there is a item on the list with
no movie next to it. Using HTML it is easy to fix.
- Using your browser, choose File | Save As
- Change the file name to "lists," select
the appropriate folder from the dropdown menu, then
click "Save."
- In Dreamweaver, open the page you just saved.
- Click on the "Show Code and Design View"
button to view the HTML source information.
- Find the <ul> tag and the spot where there is
a <li> tag with no movie after it. Select
the <li> tag and hit "Delete" on your
keyboard.
- Hit "Refresh" on the Properties Window or
click into the portion of the window that shows the
actual page.
The bullet without a movie next to it should now be
gone.
Wasn't that easy?
Now try adding an item.

by Louise Erdrich </li> in between Dharma Bums
and Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Try adding italics to the name of the
book by hitting the keyboard shortcut (Control button,
then at the same time, hit the "L" button
- Ctrl L) before and after the name of the book. |
Hit the "Refresh" button in the Properties Window
or simply click back in the bottom portion of the window
that shows the actual page.

Sorry, didn't mean to set you up. If
you tried to italicize "Love Medicine" in
the HTML code you probably noticed that it italicized
all the words when you hit the "Refresh"
button. This is because Dreamweaver added the beginning
and closing italics tags when I hit the "Italics"
button. Then, when I hit "Ctrl-L" (a keyboard
shortcut to add italics) to take the italics off,
it added another set of italics tags. |
To fix this problem, simply add </i> to the end of
"Love Medicine" and delete the extraneous <i>
and </i> tags. Hit the "Refresh" button
and everything should be right again in your world.
7. Show your work to your mentor(s) and you're ready to
move on.
Good job. Now select "Bad Links" from the dropdown
menu. |
