1. CUIP/Webmail.

Open your email and delete all unnecessary email messages. Click here to go to

2. Types of Web Lessons

The purpose of this lesson is to introduce and familiarize teachers with a variety of web-based lesson and activity formats.

3. Introduction to WebQuests

To introduce participants to the WebQuest as a specific form of guided online learning activity. To provide participants the opportunity to evaluate how they might integrate WebQuests into their curriculum.

Group Check-In

Where are you with your thoughts about your webquest? Lets take a break, get something cold to drink and discuss.

4. Create a WebQuest Folder

On the desktop, open "My Computer" and click on the "C:" drive. Right click on an empty space inside C: and select "New" then select "Folder". Type in "webquests" for the name of the folder and click away. When you have finished, you can close the window. When naming the folder, please do not use capitals or spaces.

5. Editing a Web Page.

Click on the following address to go to a web page and edit it. You will edit a template that will be used for your webquest and save. ** When you save, please make sure you save in your webquest folder you just created and the filename should be "webquest" ** These steps are listed in the handbook on page

6. Publish your webquest folder, edit the webquest page and republish it.

Publish your folder:

  • Open WSFTP (on the desktop) and login by selecting your profile and typing in your password.
  • Look on the left side of the WSFTP window to find your user folder and click inside to see your webquest folder. (If you do not see your folder, don't panic, you have to dig for it).
  • Look on the right side of the WSFTP window to find your folder on the WIT server. If you don't see it, remember, it is inside your www folder. Click to go inside your www folder, this is where you will publish your webquest folder.
  • highlight the webquest folder on the left and click the --> arrow to send it to the remote WIT server.

Edit your page

  • Find your webquest page on the Internet. The URL should be something like:

http://webinstituteforteachers.org/~username/webquests

  • To edit the page select File | Edit Page
  • Make desired changes to the page and save in proper folder.

Republish your page

  • Go back to WSFTP and find the page you just edited on the left side of the WSFTP window. Click to go inside your webquest folder you just published to the WIT server (on the right side)
  • With the webquest file highlighted and the wequest folder open, publish your page again by clicking on the --> arrow.
