Tonight's

II. Working with
Templates and to construct Teacher
pages for your WebQuests
- Mentors demonstrate the
use of templates, pointing out the difference between
those using frames and those without frames. The
ones without frames are easier.
- Quick
review of use of Composer with the templates: "File>Edit
Page", creating links, changing fonts. (Students
who have not downloaded templates refer to July
18 lesson plans.
Remember to save frequently
in case your computer freezes!
- Go over the basic elements
of a WebQuest. Remember, you can go back to the great pages
in Buildingblocks
of a WebQuest which we studied last week to find great explanation
and examples.
- What should Teacher pages
contain? Follow template for instructions and see
examples in Buildingblocks.
- Students work independently
to edit Teacher Pages in template to reflect
their own goals.
Note: Teacher
pagers must include reference to Illinois
Learning Standards: http://www.isbe.net/ils/Default.htm

Working with Images and sending them to the Server
- Mentor talks about putting
images in web pages:
- Be sure that the images you use are in the same folder
as the web site (html document) you are creating
- In Composer go to
"Insert>Image"
- Either type an "Alternative Text" which describes the picture briefly
or click "Don't use alternative
text"
- Most Important:
Be sure that "URL is relative to page location" IS CHECKED.
- Mentor describes how to
resize pictures, and why to change image size in Paint or Paint Shop
instead of with Composer.
- Demonstrate how to open
Paint and change size of image:
Open
the program called "Paint" by
Click "Start">"Programs">"Accessories">"Paint"
- Bring the image you
downloaded into Paint to be worked with.
Click: "File">"Open"
In
the "Open" window, click the down arrow at the top of the window and
brows to the correct folder and file.
Click "Open"
Now you have the image in the Paint program
where you can do things with it.
Editing the image:
- First,
click "Image" and
change its size ("Stretch/Skew").
- Save image
- Mentor talks about sending
images to server:
- Do not drag whole folders
to server
- Drag the templates you
have worked on, without changing their names, to the server.
- Drag the images you have
worked on to the same part of the server as the templates.
