What's new in Netscape 7.0?
Why use bookmarks?
Bookmarks are shortcuts to your favorite and most visited web pages.
Rather than typing in long URLs (web addresses), you can create bookmarks
that
take you directly to the pages you want to see, so you don't have to remember
or write them down. In this module, you will learn how to use bookmarks
in Netscape 7.0. Although these are instructions for Bookmarking in
Netscape 7.0, there are other software to help you manage bookmarks. If
you have used Internet Explorer, these bookmarks are called Favorites and
if you are a user of AOL, they are called Favorite Places.
Add Bookmarks
To bookmark the current page, just follow this step. While the
page to be bookmarked is open, click on the Bookmarks menu. Then click on
Bookmark This Page.
The Bookmark for this page will then be added to the bookmark file. To
see if your Bookmark was successful, click the Bookmark menu again and scroll
to the bottom of the page. If you were successful, your web
page should be in the file.
IT'S YOUR TURN....TRY IT OUT!!!
Open up a new browser and go to your favorite web site and BOOKMARK
IT! Make sure you are successful by scrolling down to the web site.
When you are finished simply close it and continue from this page.
NOW I CAN BOOKMARK...HOW DO I USE IT?
It is simple to use. Just open the Bookmark menu, find your bookmark
from the list, and CLICK! This will take you directly to your web site.
MANGE YOUR BOOMARKS
After
finding all your web sites and bookmarking, your list can get to be very
long. Fortunately,
Netscape 7.0 has a tool that is available to manage your bookmarks. Go
to the Bookmark menu and scroll to Manage Bookmarks.
Click Manage Bookmarks and a screen will pop up. This screen will allow
you to Create a New Folder, Create a Separator, File Bookmarks, Identify
the Properties , Rename your Bookmark, and Delete your Bookmarks.
From this menu, you want to click New Folder. When you click on
New Folder, a new window will open ask you to name the New Folder:
Type the name of the New Folder in the dialog box and click "OK".
The new folder should be visible in the Bookmarks menu.
As a Netscape 7.0 user, you can create as many folders as you need to help
manage your bookmarks. Once a folder has been created, a user can
place a bookmark in that folder by selecting the Bookmark menu and scrolling
to File Bookmark. You can also click and drag existing bookmarks into your
bookmark folder to assist you in organizing your bookmarks.
A new window will appear which will verify the name and the URL of the
web site and ask for the correct folder in which to place the bookmark:
Choose the correct folder and press "OK" .

DELETE BOOKMARKS
When your
bookmark folder and bookmarks become too large. Netscape
will allow you to delete Bookmarks. To do this, open the Bookmark
menu and scroll to Manage Bookmark. On this screen you can either go to
the Edit
menu and select Delete or simply press Delete in Manage Bookmark.

Exporting Bookmarks
At times users may need to use a computer that is not their own. In
situations like this, it is important for users to know how to take their
favorites with them. In order to do this, you will need a floppy disk.
Use the Bookmark menu to open Manage Bookmark window. In this
window scroll to Tools: Export Bookmarks:
A new window will open and ask for the place to save the bookmark file. Choose
3.5 Floppy (A:) and select a name for the exported bookmark:
YOU TRY IT!
Save a copy of your personal bookmark file to a floppy disk. Turn the disk
into your mentor.
Every time a user sits down at a computer, he/she must tell the Web Browser
to use his/her bookmarks instead of the default bookmarks. To use a personal
bookmark file, use Bookmark: Manage Bookmarks to open the manage bookmark
window. Once the Manage Bookmarks window is open, use Tools: Import Bookmarks:

IMPORTING YOUR BOOKMARKS
You can also import Bookmarks that you filed using Internet Explorer. To
do this, click the Bookmark menu and select Import IE Favorites:

WHAT'S NEW ABOUT 7.0 BOOKMARKING?
Bookmarking a Group of Tabs.
This new tool allows users to take bookmarks from all the the sites that
are in one browser and bookmark them together.
To use this tool, simply click on the Bookmarks menu and scroll and select
Bookmark This Group of Tabs.
This module is a revision of the module used in WIT 2002.
