Publishing
Tip: Netscape Composer strongly recommends
saving or publishing your page before inserting links or images into it. This
allows Composer to automatically use relative references for links and images
Publishing a Document
- Open the document you wish to publish, or create a new page in Composer
- When you are ready to upload (publish) your page to the web server, click
the publish button

-
- After you have successfully published your web page, you can browse it by
clicking on the browse button
.
- Tip: be sure to check all of your links and
images: click on links to check accuracy, check to see that all images have
loaded
- You may continue to make changes to your page at this
time. When you are ready to update the remote page with your changes, save
your document, then click on the publish icon again
Updating a Published Document
- Open the page you wish to update. One method is to open the File
menu, and choose Recent Pages to select your document. Another
option is to locate the page on the Internet by entering the URL of the page.
When viewing in a browser, open the File menu and choose Edit
Page. The document will automatically be placed in Composer ready
for editing
- Edit your document
- Save your changes, then press Publish
Changing a Filename or Publishing Location
If you decide to change the filename of your web page or change the location,
follow the steps below:
- Open your document using one of the methods listed in the section above
- Open the File menu and select Edit Page
- Edit your document if necessary, then click on the File menu
and select Publish As. Composer will open the publish tab in
the Publish Page dialog box
- Make your changes, then click Publish to update your document
Common Publishing Problems
Netscape's Help Menu provides solutions to many common publishing problems,
along with error messages that may be seen and how to solve these problems.
If your page does not publish and you see an error message, stop and check all
of your settings. Follow the steps in your handbook to try to publish a second
time. If you are still unsuccessful, click the Help menu, Click
on Help and Support Center, then use the search tool by opening it and
typing in "Publishing Problems". Read through the section to try to
problem solve before you contact your mentor for help
