Implementing Your Curriculum Web in the Classroom
Teaching Guide
AIM
The Goal of Implementing
Your Curriculum Web in the Classroom is to prepare WIT participants for the
implementation of their Curriculum Webs through the use and development of strategies
and plans of action.
RATIONALE
Even though a successful Curriculum Web experience has at its
core a well-written Curriculum Web, the best Curriculum Web can fail horribly if it
is not implemented correctly. Many teachers do not realize that Curriculum Web
implementation begins well before students actually ever go into the computer
lab (if that is where the Curriculum Web is to be conducted). By
working through this module, participants will become cognizant of the
various steps of Curriculum Web implementation and have a greater chance of conducting
a successful and meaningful Curriculum Web.
GOALS/OBJECTIVES
Participants will assess their technology situation and
develop and implementation plan suited for their grade level as well as
their technology situation. Participants will develop strategies
for pre-, during-, and post-Curriculum Web activities and in technology use classroom/lab
management.
SUBJECT MATTER
Exploration of general, as well as grade-level specific
strategies for the implementation of a successful Curriculum Web experience.
As well, teachers will discuss and develop a plan of action for implementing
the Curriculum Web that they have created (which can also be used for the implementation
of already-existing Curriculum Webs).
MATERIALS NEEDED AND PREREQUISITES
Participants will need to have developed a Curriculum Web of
their own. Additionally, participants will need to be able to evaluate
the technology skill level of their students and be willing to be flexible
with plans in the event that they "experience technical difficulties."
TIME REQUIRED
This module will take approximately one class session
(4 hours) to complete.
INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN
Mentors will present this module after the basic instructional
modules and ideally after the modules on "Introduction to Curriculum Webs" and
"Types of Web Lessons." Participants should work through the General
Strategies section and Task 1, then choose the module section best
suited to their class level (either Elementary
Implementation or High
School Implementation). Mentors should have the participants
discuss these strategies with a partner and then discuss with the class
at large. Finally the participants should develop and present their
individualized implementation plan, having considered all the information
contained within the module.
ASSESSMENT
Participants will be asked to perform the various module
tasks, to work in small groups, and to discuss with the larger group their
assessments and views. When this module is complete, the particpants
should have an Individualized
Implementation Plan, suited to their specific Curriculum Web and classroom
situation.
