WIT 2003

Manipulating Photos Using Paint Shop Pro

This module is a brief introduction to the subject of manipulating photos for the web. At the end of the module, we have provided links to sites that explore the topic in more detail.

The Internet is a medium where file size is important, especially with photos. If the photograph’s resolution is too high or the image too large, the download time for the picture will take too long. With most end users having a 56k dial-up connection, it is crucial that your Web page loads as quickly as possible. To insure that your photos don’t slow down your audience viewing time it is best to enhance, compress, and optimize them. There are many tools for preparing your photos for the Web. We are going to look at Jasc's Paint Shop Pro.

The first thing that you'll need to do is go to http://www.jasc.com/ and obtain a 30-day trial version of the program. (This may already be installed on your WIT computer.) Note that your computer needs to meet the minimum requirements for the program, as described on the JASC web site:

After you're done downloading and installing the program, let's take a look at the basic Tools you'll be using.
