I am a teacher at Fenger Academy High School in Chicago, Illinois and have taught advanced honors, honors and regular biology classes.I have even taught Advanced Placement biology when it was offered at my high school. In addition, I am a former chairperson of the biology department and have coordinated the science fair and sponsored the science club. Besides serving as a member of the Fenger Design Team for the Chicago Systemic Initiative, I have conducted workshops for the Chicago Teachers Academy. I also taught a workshop on "Action Biology" in a program sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Governors State University. I have been a judge at the Illinois Academy of Science Exhibition and have served as the chairman of the judging committee for the Chicago City Science Fair. I also co-developed a pilot program "Science Survey for Slow Learners" which was taught at Carver High School. My professional affiliations include membership in the National Biology Teachers Association, the Illinois Biology Teachers Association, the National Science Teachers Association, the Illinois Science Teachers Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
The most unique thing about myself is my name. I am named in honor
of my grandmother and my mother. I have part of both names.
Two things that I enjoy doing are cooking and gardening. I especially
enjoy cajun cooking and can make some real mean "dirty rice."
I put lots of shrimp and peppers in mine. My gumbos do not contain
okra because I am allergic to it, but it is still "real" gumbo. I've always
enjoyed the outdoors and gardening gives me a chance to do just that.
I take great pride in my lawn and the flowers found there. The great
outdoors is so peaceful and gives one time to think and be thankful.
My favorite sports team is the Chicago Bulls. I really enjoy watching
them play and oftentimes I scream myself hoarse. Michael Jordan is
my favorite player. Go Mike!
