Activity 3- Places, Human/Environment Interaction, Movement and Regions- Four Themes in One

This last activity will be completed over several days. Your goal is to for your and your partner to research and give a presentation on a country demonstrating an understanding of the five themes of geography. You should view the following guidelines, project rubric, and presentation rubric before beginning your research.

If you have not done so, go back to the the National Geographic Society article and read about the other four themes of geography. While you are doing this, your teacher will come around and assign you the country you will be further researching.

Now that you have been assigned your country, you can begin your research. Your first step is to go to the following web site from the CIA and select your country from the list. This is full of all kinds of information that should be helpful for you in learning about your country. You should begin by reading the short history of your country.

Now make sure you have the following handout, or print it out if your teacher asks you to do so. You will now begin the research phase of your project by answering as many of the questions as you can. You should be able to find most of the answers from the web site from the CIA, but I will expect you to use other web sites as well. Think back to activity two where you learned to evaluate web sites. You should all visit the resources that I suggested, but I encourage you to attempt to find some of your own sites. (Hint- try and visit your country's official web site.) You may also want to print out a blank map of your country to use in your project.
