Introduction

Did you know ants and humans are alike in many ways? Our class has been studying insects and has learned some basic facts about them. We found  an ant  farm stored away in our school's  bookroom.  The ants were ordered and now have arrived. We will become our school's first entomologists(persons who study bugs and insects). 



The Task 

You have a special job ahead.  The lives of small ants depend on you.  Your skills as an Entomologist are important to completing this special task. You must locate and log-in as many facts about ants you can find. By the end of your research you should have at least 10 facts recorded on your log-in sheet.




The Process 

You have your assignment.  Proceed to your work station. You wil visit many websites to help you with your research.  You will report back to the class your findings.  There is a special ant treat for the  group who locates the most facts.

  1. Look at the picture of the ant. click (draw one on your log-in sheet)
  2. Label the body parts of an ant. click
  3. After listening to  "The ants go marching", click  put  an  "X" next to the picture that shows ant actions that are like  yours.
  4. Put the stages of development in the correct order. click
  5. Write down 3 members of the ant familiy. click
  6. What job does each member of the family has?(Listen to the story  "Ants In Your  Pants")
  7. What do ants like to eat? ( This answer can also be found in the story "Ants In Your Pants")
  8.  How do ants talk to each other? click
  9.  What does an ant's home look like? click
  10. How do ants protect themselves? click
