Read what you have written after completing Step 3 Revisions. Go through your paper to check for the following: (If your typed your paper in Microsoft Word, use the Spelling and Grammar Tool.)

1. All words must be spelled correctly. This includes words that are capitalized. Use the dictionary to check spelling. If you typed this writing assignment, use the spell check tool.

Did you check the spelling of all unfamiliar and familiar words?

2. Check sentences for proper punctuation, subject/verb agreement, and grammar. Follow the rules of English grammar to write sentences. Read your paper out loud to check.

Are periods, quotation marks, commas etc. used properly?

Do subjects agree with verb in gender and number?

3. Use a thesaurus or a dictionary to check word usage. Double check that you have used the correct word (definition and spelling) in a sentence. If you have used a word more than three times, use the thesaurus or dictionary to find a different word with the same meaning.

Have you selected the best choice of words in your writing?

Are there words that would make your writing easier to read?

4. Ask someone to check edit your paper. They should make corrections using the checklist. Your editor should use a different color pen to make corrections. Proofreaders marks are mandatory.

5. Go to Step 5 Publish. Your paper is almost finished! If you are confident you have drafted, revised and edited your writing, proceed to Step 5 Publish.
