Lets Go To The Zoo!

Introduction / Task / Process / Resources / Evaluation / Conclusion

Introduction

Did you know there is a way to visit other zoos without leaving the school?
You are going to visit another zoo using the Internet.  Many zoo Web sites
have what is called a virtual tour.  Your job will be to find a zoo that
offers a virtual tour that you like.  You will also prepare a flyer for the
zoo web site.

Task

During this activity you will choose a zoo that has a virtual tour.  You will
plan a tour for your classmates and prepare to take them through it.  You
will make a flyer that will give your classmates the name and URL for
your zoo.

Process

1. Pick a zoo Web site that has a virtual tour.  In your notebook write the name
of the Web site, the Web site URL, and three reasons that you chose this zoo's Web site.  (Think about what animals you could see, what you could hear, and
how much you have to read.)  Tell the teacher what zoo you chose.
You can not choose a zoo that has already been picked by someone else.

2. Go through the tour 2 or 3 times.  In your notebook, write down the best
parts that you could talkto the class about.  Are there some bad parts to tell
us about, too?  Write them down.

3. Go through the site 1 more time.  Pretend you are giving the class the tour.  Practice what you are going to say.

4. Now you just need to make your flyer.  The flyer will help your classmates
find this Web site on their own.

The parts you need to have on your flyer are:
You may draw by hand or use KidPix to make your pictures.  Use some of the
books listed below for picture ideas.  Printing pictures from the Web site is
also OK.  You can type the words on the computer or write them by hand.

5. Take your class on a tour of your zoo!  Your flyer will be on the bulletin board.

Evaluation

Not Quite
Almost There
Great Job
Tour
You have seen the site but were not ready to share. You knew how to get around but not what to say. You knew what to do and say before you started.
Notes
You did not take notes. You did not write why you chose this site and the things you liked about it. You wrote down what you liked about the site and why you picked it.
Flyer
You did not use any pictures and are missing some of the important parts. You have the pictures but are missing some of the important parts. You have pictures and all the important parts are there.

Conclusion

Did you have fun on your tour?  I hope so.  To help you think a little more
about what you did, read these questions and write your answers in your
notebook.
