Welcome to the Composition Generator.

In the Composition Generator, you can create your own composition and change it over and over again. Simply click on a shape and drag it into the frame. Repeat with as many different shapes as you'd like to use. If you lose a shape or want to start over, simply click on the refresh button and the screen will go back to its original configuration.

Here are some tips for good design. (These are all general rules of composition. You should stick to these rules for the most part, but once an artist understands the rules, he/she always finds reasons to break them for specific images.)

1. Your composition should be balanced. It should have equal weight from top to bottom and from side to side. (In this black and white composition, you don't need to worry about color. But, color can change the weight of a shape considerably. You should know that a small shape of a bright color can carry as much weight as a large shape of a dull color.)

2. The negative space (the background) should be as interesting as the positive space (the shapes).

3. Don't divide your composition in half from top to bottom or from side to side.

4. A composition generally looks better divided in thirds as opposed to being divided in half.

5. Don't put a shape, or the center of interest, exactly in the middle.

Finally, don't be satisfied with your first composition. If you like your composition, save it as an html page, refresh, and make another one, and another. Push yourself, and you will come up with more unusual and interesting designs.
