This site discusses the origin on tall tales and also lists and explains the elements of a tall tale. It provides links for students/teachers to read the stories online. The site also has a story pattern to help students in writing their own Tall Tale, simply cut and paste it to Microsoft Word and tailor it to the level of difficulty/ease for your class.

Understand exaggeration as a source of humor in stories
Identify conventional elements of literature in tall tales
Compare different types of heroes and folk tales
Identify regional elements in tall tales and Jack tales
Compare colloquial language or dialect in folk tales with standard language
Explore the differences and links between humor or nonsense and serious or moral themes in stories
Develop writing skills and demonstrate understanding of traditional tales by writing their own tales.
