INTRODUCTION
Getting Eggs Are Easy!
TASK
Working with a partner of your
choice you are to design a package that will protect your egg from breaking
when dropped from the third floor fire escape at Ray School.
Background
In order to be successful in
your package creation you will need a little background information. Below
is a list of web sites that will help you in answering questions
and developing you design.
ACTIVITY 1
Visit each of the websites and follow the given
directions. Be sure to print out your results.

ACTIVITY 2
1.) Working with your partner design an egg package that will protect one large egg from breaking. Reminder: your package will be dropped from the third floor!
2.)
Submit a drawing of your package with a list of the materials that will
be used for building. Also include who will be responsible
for bringing in which materials used.
ACTIVITY 3
3.) You will be allowed twenty minutes to build your package.
4.)
Drop
package from selected height and review contents.
If the eggs are broken the team must redesign their package.
YOU WILL ONLY HAVE THREE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SURVIVAL!!
ASSESSMENT
Grades will be based on the following:
Drawing of design with all parts labeled
and a list of bulding materials
10pts.
Completion of website activites with
printout of answers
30pts.
Participation and cooperation in class
and within teams
10pts.
Survival of package
40pts.
One page written essay highlighting the following questions: 10pts.
Why do you think the package survived?
What are the possible scientific reasons why
the package surbived?
(based on what you now know about the laws of motion)
Was your egg in perfect condition when you
opened the package?
If not, what was wrong?
How many times did you make the package before you were successful?
(If you had to rebuild, what did
you and your partner do differently?)
